These white-bearded wildebeest -- also known as gnus due to the sound they make -- were running along the plains as we drove by. They can hit 50 miles per hour in short bursts, but unfortunately for me (fortunately for them) I don't think there were any predators near by. These are just a few steps taken of their 500-1000 mile migration, occurring every summer. Except for humans, wildebeests live in more densely packed herds than any other large mammal. I'll keep that in mind next time I'm packed on a bus or train during my daily commute.
